What is a thermostat housing?

Thermostat Housing is a wax filled cylinder. It allows the coolant to pass through only when the radiator boils up beyond the designated operating temperature. In order for the valve to open, the wax melts and the hose expands for free flow of coolant.

How do I know if my thermostat housing is bad?

1. Temperature gauge reading very high and

2. Engine overheating.

3. Temperature changing erratically.

How do I test my thermostat?

1. With the power to the furnace off, remove the thermostat or thermostat cover to expose the wires.

2. Unscrew and remove the wires from their terminals.

3. Twist the bare ends of the two wires together.

4. Turn the power to the furnace back on.
